Reviews
Very special place to see the handmade and ancient crafts of India. Nasir very kindly showed me many beautiful things with no expectations but I did buy a beautiful rug for my Mom which we’ll enjoy for many years to come!
Very good quality souvenirs and other things here, among them cashmere, carpet etc, but place iwas shown by local gide like popular tourists spot so price here cosmic.
I purchased two scarves for my mother and spent a total of 14,200 rupees. The salesperson claimed that the scarves were handmade and made of top-quality wool. I was delighted to buy them at that time. However, when I returned to the hotel, an Indian waiter told me that the scarves were not worth that much and were only worth around 1,700 rupees. I feel very disappointed, and like other reviews, I must say that the shopping experience here is poor. It feels like the salespersons are always trying to force you to buy something. Totally scam things!
Be aware
1) They do not take “no” for an answer.
2) They don’t follow through with commitments.
I purchased a large tapestry.
- I was told they would add hanging loops for free, it didn’t have them when it arrived.
- They said I would have it in 10 days. It took several inquiry emails and a month to arrive.
- They said taxes were included and paid by the Indian government to keep the craft going. I also had to pay customs tax to the shipper before it was delivered.
what can I say... everything has already been mentioned. it's just stupid that I only saw this after that. someone was also very friendly with me and told me about the Indian loom. so I went there. I am already used to intrusive sellers and so I fought my way through to the scarves, which were the reason for my visit. the sellers are super trained in what they do and so I bought souvenirs for the whole family. 6 scarves, increasing best quality, 100% pashmina hand-woven. Price per piece 20000 Rs. A hand-embroidered masterpiece is also among them, price 70000 Rs. I don't know the prices in India and can only compare what it would cost at my home. it's ok for that, but an Indian colleague told me that such a scarf is worth about 2000 to 5000 Rs. along with the other reviews, I now feel like I'm being screwed... an other one told me, if it is 100% real handmade pashmina, the price is ok. So i don't know... what remains is a bad feeling.
i just hope that it is at least hand-woven and also 100% pashmina.
Store was great and Kedy was very good as guide and sales person! Very polite and sensitive! Great place to buy traditional Indian stuff!!!!
Straight scam center. There’s a coordinated network of con men pretending to be helpful locals who tell you about this great place for local crafts. They’ll pretend to hail a random driver who is actually their buddy for a reasonable price. This driver will be nice and offer to wait for you outside and take you back at no extra charge. Once you’re inside of they’ll try to sell you a bunch of overpriced goods. If you say no to one product, they shoe you over to another area with another salesman. Very pushy and insistent. My driver was clearly unhappy when I walked out empty handed and some guy from the store came out to chat with him.
Be careful and don't be fooled like I was.
👉🏻 6000 rupies for a pashmina
👉🏻 20000 rupies for a saree (which thankfully I didn't buy)
Note: they justified the high price saying that it was the highest quality.
Later on my trip I showed the pashmina to several Indian friends, they all told me that the quality was average and the maximum price should have been 2000 rupies.
❗️Side note: I ended up to this shop through a guided tour on the app GerYourGuide.
My guide's name was SAURABH ANAND, who works for the agency ARIF DELIGHT TOURS.
At the end of the 1-day tour Delhi and New Delhi he suggested me to go to this shop where they sell products from Kashmeer.
During the whole tour Saurabh was friendly and seemed serious and professional, so I trusted him.
While I was in the shop I felt pressured to buy, the super kind shop assistants never leave you alone for a moment. I felt almost guilty for not buying anything.
I asked Saurabh what he thought about the prices and he said that they were fair (which later proved to be a lie).
Now I know that he probably took a percentage on the amount that I spent in that shop. I don't know if Arif Delight Tours is involved as well.
Now I also understand why Saurabh pushed me to immediately write a good review on GetYourGuide that same evening (it's not possible to edit the reviews on the app, however I managed to have my positive review removed after contacting the customer assistance).
I hope this review can help other tourists avoid this unpleasant experience.
